David returned to Historic racing after almost a 3year hiatus with regular co-driver Graham Wilson in his Lotus Elan 26R, and for the first time his Lotus Cortina as well at the Spa6hrs and Masters Endurance Racing series.
Having not run the cars for nearly 2years, a few teething issues had to be fixed throughout testing and qualifying meaning the team of one of the most successful cars in the 6hrs started the race on the backfoot.
David qualified the car P22 overall and P2 in class having matched his time from 3years ago. Owner Graham would start the car and set off into an early rhythm, however after 20mins had to box to check an oil light which proved to be a sensor issue before heading back out on track to make up the lost time!
Problems continued meaning 2 more trips to the pits before the issue was solved, however the car was already 8laps down which was too far behind to make up the deficit. The car completed the race in P30.
“It was great to get the gang back together of Graham, Andy Wolfe and myself! Its been a while and we always have a great time going racing together. The issues with the car meant we weren’t fully confident to start the race and it seemed that the issues were solved ½ way through the race, but this was too late to try and keep up the cars impressive record in the race… I hope we can be back in following years to be back on the top step! As always, big thanks to GW for having me along to share with him”
